Booking your MRI scan with Private Health Insurance

We now have a more tailored approach for Private Health Insured patients, which can be seen throughout our new booking process.

Online Booking

We have introduced a new online booking system so that you can complete your entire booking online.

You can take your time choosing your MRI scan areas, and submit your health insurance details for your scan, all from the comfort of your own home.

Simply choose Insurance during your online booking and submit your Private Medical Insurance details and authorisation code when prompted.

Appointments

We have introduced a live diary, so you can choose your own appointment with real-time availability, at a time and date that suits you.

We offer same-day and next-day appointments, subject to availability, or you can choose to book in advance to work around your schedule.

 Simply start by choosing your MRI type and searching for the body area that's giving you trouble. You will be able to see our locations and appointment availability before proceeding through to booking your MRI scan.

Refer yourself for an MRI

There is no longer a need to wait for a doctor or consultant's referral to booking your MRI scan, you can simply and easily refer yourself on our website. All we ask is that you provide details of your GP or specialist that will receive a copy of your results and offer ongoing care or treatment.

If you are using Private Health Insurance, please ensure that you check the Terms and Conditions of your policy before choosing the self-referral option.

  • Does private health insurance cover MRI scans?

    Yes, most UK private health insurance policies cover MRI scans when they are medically needed and referred by a GP or specialist

  • Which health insurers do you work with?

    We accept patients covered by major UK insurers, including Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality and WPA. If your insurer isn’t listed, call us on 01702 595630 and we’ll check whether we can accept your policy.

  • How do I claim an MRI scan on my health insurance?

    1. Get a referral: Your GP or specialist confirms you need an MRI scan.
    2. Call your insurer: Give them the referral details and ask for an authorisation (pre-approval) code.
    3. Book your scan: Book online, choose “Insurance” and enter your policy number and authorisation code. Same-day and next-day appointments are often available.
    4. Pay any excess: We bill your insurer directly. You only pay the excess on your policy, if you have one.

  • Do I need a GP referral for an MRI scan?

    No, You can refer yourself for an MRI at MRI Plus without seeing a GP or consultant first. You’ll need to give us the details of a GP or specialist who will receive your results. Most insurers still need a GP or specialist referral before they authorise a claim, so check your policy before you book.
