How much does a Private MRI scan cost?

The cost of a Private MRI Scan

We speak to patients daily about MRI scans, and the most commonly asked question is about the cost of a Private MRI scan.

So, how much does a Private MRI really cost in the UK?

And how do we compare to our competitors?

Why pay to have a Private MRI Scan?

There are several reasons why people choose to have a private MRI scan in the United Kingdom:

No waiting list

Private MRI scans are often available quickly, which can be especially appealing for people with urgent medical needs.

More Convenient

Private MRI scans may be more convenient, as you will get better flexibility to choose date and time based on your availability.

Patient Choice

Some people may simply prefer to have their MRI scan done at a private facility, either because they have a preferred provider or because they want more control over their healthcare experience.

Advanced Technology

Private MRI diagnostic facilities are more likely to have access to newer or more advanced MRI machines, which can provide clearer and more detailed images.

Do I need a referral letter for a Private MRI Scan?

Private health providers require a referral letter from a healthcare professional as this can provide more medical information and a clinical history can be useful when scanning patients. However, many clinics are now offering patients the option to refer themselves.

At MRI Plus, we offer self-referral Private MRI scans for:

  • Patients aged 18 years and above.
  • Patients aged 16-18 years old, as long as they are accompanied by a consenting parent/guardian.

All self-referrals are subject to our self-referral policy. There are some exclusions, including contrast-enhanced scans, which must be referred by a healthcare professional.

If you are using Private Health Insurance, we would always advise checking your policy terms and conditions prior to booking.

When can I receive my MRI report?

Reporting timescale varies between private providers.

At MRI Plus, the timescale will depend on your chosen package. The standard reporting time is 7 working days, offered on our Bronze package, or you can choose Silver, Gold or Platinum for a report within 2 working days.

Can I use my Health Insurance to pay for my MRI scan?

Some insurance plans may cover all or part of the cost of a private MRI scan, so it is important to check with your insurance provider to understand your coverage.

At MRI Plus, we are recognised by all major insurers and we even have the option to submit your Private Medical Insurance details when booking online.

How can I pay for my Private MRI scan?

At MRI Plus, we offer the following payment options when booking your Private MRI scan package online:
